Democrats with Disabilities Is An Official Caucus of the Texas Democratic Party
We are Democrats working to increase the representation and participation of the disability community within the party and local, state, and federal government.
The disability community is the largest minority in the U.S. We make up 20% of the population—58 million people. There are 45 million persons with disabilities of voting age in the U.S. In Texas, there are 4.6 million persons with disabilities, and 3.5 million are of voting age. That's enough to swing any election at any level of government.
We are the only minority to include members of every other ethnic group, economic class, age group, sexual orientation or identity, and interest group. We are African-American, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, young, old, rich, poor, male, female, straight, gay, veterans, and pacifists. No other group in the Democratic Party more accurately represents the idea of the "Big Tent."
Membership IS NOT limited to the disability community. Anyone who cares about the participation and representation of persons with disabilities in the Democratic Party is welcome. Membership is currently free.
